Who are we?

MaraeMelbourne consists of many people from different backgrounds united with the passion of building a marae complex in Melbourne. The entire organisation consists of the following groups:

  • Management Committee

  • Kaumatua and Advisory Council

  • Volunteers Association

  • Community Members

  • Brick Holders and Financial Members

MaraeMelbourne Management Committee

MaraeMelbourne Management Committee is made up of committed members of the New Zealand community whose individual perspectives of the need for a ‘marae’ culminate as a united approach to achieving the ultimate goal for building community and facility (marae) within a multi-cultural environment outside the shores of New Zealand.

A marae is the ‘hub’ of any community. A place of spiritual, religious and social gatherings within the community whatever the need is of the time. A place of service, open to whoever is in need. A place for cultural sustenance; where our community can practice our protocols without hesitation. A place of learning; where our community can deliver programs for all generations of our history and teachings.

The Management Committee are dedicated and committed to seeing this dream become a reality.  Collectively the Committee brings a high level of skill and expertise to steer this kaupapa (the reason/purpose) forward. The Committee is responsible for the governance and due diligence of the organisation.

MaraeMelbourne Kaumatua and Advisory Council

MaraeMelbourne Management Committee has ensured that the importance of the role of Kaumatua is acknowledged and observed to provide advice on the cultural aspects of community build and facility. Our Kaumatua have supported marae development in Melbourne for many years and have been instrumental in providing invaluable advice reflective of their experiences within the community. The Kaumatua and Advisory Council will continue to play an integral role in the planning and development and implementation phases of all work and initiatives undertaken by MaraeMelbourne.
