Married to Diane, 2 daughters, 1 foster son, 3 mokopuna.

Mathew began a 20-year career with the New Zealand Army, primarily in office and personnel management.  He held a variety of appointments, achieving a number of personal and professional goals and being eligible to retire in 1990 at a young 38 years of age.  He returned to Rotorua where he undertook a number of challenges within the tribal and business communities, also serving in a voluntary capacity as a member on the board of trustees of various community groups.  He and his wife Diane bought a cafeteria business which they later turned into a restaurant and sold as a going concern.

Matt and Diane moved to Melbourne in 2002 with their family and grandchildren.  He is currently employed by Bluestar Security as the Customer Service Manager, responsible for developing and implementing customer service strategies in retail security.
