Kahu Wineti

Ngati Kahungunu

Married to Karen, 2 sons

Kahu and wife Karen have lived in Australia for 20 years working in the seafood retail sector for most of that time.

Both have been members of various community groups with links to their cultural ties.  Kahu is often seen in attendance at many “backyard tangi” (funerals) with his “mobile kitchen” in tow, assisting with catering at these and other events.   These “tangi” have highlighted many bereavement issues that exist in the State of Victoria, especially the maintenance of cultural and traditional requirements.

Kahu and Karen share a passion to establish a marae to address bereavement and other issues currently facing Maori people living in Victoria and have been involved with providing funding, catering and voluntary assistance to families facing bereavement.

“The building of a marae will do much to address the many issues we have facing our youth and our community, and will enable us to develop, strengthen and express our culture.”
